When Clients Become Like Family

Repeat client says newly renovated studio feels like home.

Dr. Knowles is one of those clients who automatically feel like family from the first moment you meet them. The conversation is easy, and you genuinely become interested in one another’s lives.

Perhaps that’s not your thing. Maybe not connecting with your clients on a personal level isn’t a priority for you. Once you can be creative (or not) and make a few dollars, you’re good.

But for some of us, it’s one of the key components of why we’re in business in the first place. Using our God-given gifts to solve people’s problems, while making them look and feel great, all at the same time.

Dr. Knowles and I first connected at another headshot session for a women’s empowerment group that she’s involved with. She insisted that we do another session just for her and a few months later we made that happen. What’s most significant for me about Dr. Knowles is she is the first client I had since my studio renovations were completed. I was super nervous about this because, while my friends and family loved the new space, I wondered what my clients would think.

“The space was warm, inviting; it’s comfortable”, she said. 

She was also expecting the space to look perfect, rigid even, but she felt as if she was at home from the first moment she walked in.

“She [Ray] welcomed me as if this was her home and it was my home, as well, for the time I was here.”

These are the kinds of reviews I live for. To know that by God’s grace I am able to create this kind of atmosphere for my clients (and now family) to feel their best before a photo session with me. 

I always encourage them by saying: the more they’re relaxed, the more we’ll capture their true personality, then present it for the world to see.
